Heather L. Crawford

Ms. Crawford joined Robin H. Balsam P.S. in 2006.  Since then, she has had extensive experience in complex guardianship, trust, and probate litigation.  In addition to private practice, Ms. Crawford's case load includes appointments by the Court as a Guardian ad Litem for Title 11 matters, as an attorney for alleged incapacitated people and minors, and as an investigator for purposes of probate litigation.

Ms. Crawford's reputation is that of an aggressive, knowledgeable litigator and a creative problem solver.  Depending on a client's goals, she passionately and assertively represents clients with difficult elder law issues surrounding powers of attorney, probate, disagreements as to disbursements from estates, and abuse of elders such as financial exploitation and undue influence.  On the other hand, she also helps clients solve problems with creative and less adversarial out-of-court arrangements.

Ms. Crawford's experience includes representing fiduciaries with litigation and the management of estates.  As one of the vice presidents of CBGS, she routinely works as a guardian and care manager as well as in conjunction with other guardians and care managers on staff to resolve medical and financial issues for the clients of Commencement Bay Guardianship Services (CBGS).  She also frequently assists clients acting as lay guardians as well as assisting fiduciaries with their accountings and fiduciary decision making.

Ms. Crawford became a Washington State Certified Professional Guardian in 2009 after completing the University of Washington's nationally renowned program on professional guardian certification.  She is a member and former chair of the Tacoma Pierce County Bar Association Guardianship Committee.

Prior to her work with Robin H. Balsam P.S., Ms. Crawford worked as a staff attorney to the Honorable United States District Court Judge, Robert J. Bryan.  In that capacity, she gained experience in employment discrimination, prisoner rights, insurance contract interpretations, Social Security, and constitutional violations.
